Is ‘Off-Market’ Selling a Con?

Many agents are now promoting their service to property sellers using the ‘Off Market’ ploy to convince them to list with their agency and save money on marketing. They then proceed to advertise the home on free sites like Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree, and perhaps some smaller free real estate sites as well. Apart from making the term ‘Off Market’ seem a little deceptive (it is actually

being marketed after all) consideration needs to be given to whether these agents are trying to achieve the best result for their clients or are simply using it as a tool to garner more listings.

If properties are not being marketed to the major property websites where most buyers search, then are the owners really going to receive the best result possible?
